Bad breath is largely attributable to anaerobic bacteria Production of sulfur, which usually resides in the surface of the tongue and throat. Smelly and "bad taste" sulfur compounds are released from the back of the tongue and throat when these "beneficial protein" containing microorganisms encounter amino acids that are thick with sulfur.

The anaerobic microorganisms that cause bad breath bad have been scientifically proven to love the amino acid cysteine and methionine which are the building blocks of proteins found in mucus and food, dairy, too. Could be hiding a large quantity of bacteria if you still have tonsils, which can lead to a fascinating and often misunderstood phenomenon, called tonsilloliths.

Medically called halitosis, bad breath may result from poor oral hygiene and may be an indication of other health problems. All the food we eat begins essentially be broken down in the mouth. Food particles can remain in your mouth if you do not you brush your teeth and floss every day, and this promotes bacteria growth between teeth, around the gums and tongue.

You can control with breath mints, mouthwash and other products found in stores designed to disguise this condition. However, they do not cover food, health and habits that cause bad breath. You should consult your dentist or doctor to rule out a more serious condition that can cause your bad breath if simple techniques care of themselves do not solve the problem.

The dentist or doctor can evaluate your medical history, health conditions that can cause bad breath and for medications that can cause dry mouth. Your dentist can do a physical check, including an examination of the teeth, gums, oral tissues and salivary glands. If your doctor suspected lung infection, diabetes, liver or kidney disease or Sjogren's syndrome, there may be a need for diagnostic tests.

There are some conditions medical systems that can cause bad breath, but these are very rare in the general population. They include:

  • Liver failure
  • Lower respiratory tract infections
  • kidney infections and kidney failure
  • Carcinoma
  • Diabetes
  • Metabolic dysfunction

How can you tell if you have bad breath?

Most people have heard that can not smell their own bad breath, but it turns out that this is not true. However, what you can smell and taste in your mouth smell five times stronger than for those near you! Because of this, except in the rare case of chronic halitosis, we are usually the last to know that there could be a problem. So What are some typical signs that you may have a breathing problem?

Here are some of the most common symptoms:

  • Presence of tonsilloliths
  • Thick white coating on the back of the tongue
  • Constant dry mouth
  • The feeling of "bad breath through your breasts
  • excess mucus and / or post-nasal drip
  • A metallic taste, metallic

There is a dichotomy that living with all dentists. We perform the necessary dental care that brings healing to the patient. Yet we know that this treatment, no matter what could be painless, can cause emotional trauma for the patient. The knowledge that this often causes the patient to avoid dental treatment is well documented. Fear of the dentist may cause some people not seeking dental care to all, even in emergency situations.

What is not well recognized, is still just as traumatic, is the effect that this dichotomy may have on dentistry in general and on me personally. I always tied to the idea that dentist sensitive (which I certainly am one), which absorbs negative energy from their patients. Although we are very respected in our community for our education and skills, patients, including our family and friends, often we are concerned, not only in our offices, as "the dentist". All dentists can cover those conversations at parties that include, "I love you, you're a great guy. But, I hate dentists." Or people who open their mouths at parties and show you his teeth. Each of them has a dental horror story, and they all feel.

Dealing with both clinical and non-clinical stress can cause the dentist a lot of emotional conflict. So that dentists have statistically high rates of suicide addiction.

In 1994 I suffered a debilitating hand injury, which forced me to collect and sell my practice. Some aspects of early, forced retirement was difficult. On the one hand, I can not do what he was trained to do. Also, I can do to heal people, which is one of the main reasons I wanted to go into dentistry in the first place. On the other hand, was a huge relief not having to deal with stress or negative energy.

Remains a struggle in this area of my life, and continued to trouble me. Why have to be such a negative experience for people, when done in dentistry has progressed to the point where, given all the procedures used today to keep the patient comfortable, pain should not be part of this experience? There is something about this experience, is so obvious as the sounds, smells and sights, or as complex as feelings of helplessness and loss of control that can trigger severe dental phobias. Research has also shown that there is a connection between the past of physical abuse and Dental phobias.

During the gathering the research for this article are reached two main conclusions.

1. The fear of some aspects of dental treatment is a common and complex. It comes in many forms and comes from many causes. One crosses all social, economic and educational strata. It 'an important factor that contributes to why many people do not seek proper oral hygiene.

2. Dentists can play an important role in the cause and resolution of dental fears and phobias. Educate themselves and their patients about the multitude of success and anxiety reduction available methods of pain can create a positive, sensitive and gentle dental experience.

Recently, following an attempt to alleviate some of the normal pre-and post-operative fear, anxiety and stresses around June my wife's 2007 hip re-surfacing surgery in a natural and spiritual, we came across an exciting, relatively unknown, gentle, noninvasive and effective self-help treatment called EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques). EFT, a form of energy psychology, is a simple technique of tapping points Specific acupuncture, while thinking about a problem.

Every patient has a unique set of emotional triggers. For some, embarrassed by their dental condition, or simply sitting in a chair or open my mouth, producing some anxiety. For others, the thought of injection, or the funny way of lip and tongue numbness, or the sight of the instruments, or loud sound vibrations and plaintive air turbine-driven hand piece, or the scent and taste of the medicine and dental materials, can trigger the reaction of fight or flight of the amygdala and anxiety and uncontrollable fear responses. As a result, the patient can avoid all dental care, including emergency treatment, even if done by the dentist more thoughtful and kind.

As I said before, some dental phobias are related to past physical or sexual abuse. In these cases, it is important work with an experienced professional who can guide one through the EFT process, and a dentist who is responsive to patient needs. The possibility of dental experience successful and non-traumatic will be greatly increased. Where fears or phobias are not that trauma, dentist or one of his assistants or hygienists can use the method EFT with the patient.

The patient can also learn the technique, and work with it on her / his own.
